Juan Pablo Montoya could leave McLaren to take up Fernando Alonso's seat at Renault, speculation in the Spanish press claims. Apparently Montoya's manager has already held talks with Renault F1 team bosses after McLaren failed to take up an option on his current deal for 2007.
It is also thought that Renault sponsor Telefonica is keen to see Montoya in the car as a replacement for Alonso with whom the telecom company cannot be happy defecting to rival Vodafone-sponsored McLaren. Montoya would also help Telefonica build its profile in key Spanish and South American markets.
Montoya himself has gone on the record saying he won't wait around at McLaren if the team doesn't show it wants him to stay and he is already looking at options elsewhere in the paddock.
